Partner Standards
What we expect from every partner, and what happens when it is not met.
Standards exist because clients cannot check the work
A client asking for a mediation analysis usually cannot verify that the bootstrap was set up correctly. That asymmetry is the whole reason a consultancy has to hold a standard internally.
So these are not aspirations. They are the conditions of receiving work.
Technical standards
What we do
- Work is within your genuine competence — decline anything that is not
- Analysis is reproducible: syntax, scripts or notebooks are always supplied
- Assumptions are tested and reported, including when they fail
- Code is commented and could be maintained by someone else
- Sources are attributed correctly and completely
- Limitations are stated rather than hidden
Professional standards
What we do
- Deadlines you accepted are met, or flagged early enough to matter
- Client material is confidential, never reused and deleted after the project
- Communication is direct and honest, including about problems
- Feedback from review is engaged with rather than argued away
- Academic integrity boundaries are held without needing to be reminded
On AI tools
AI assistance is acceptable for what it is genuinely good at: drafting boilerplate, suggesting code structure, checking grammar.
It is not acceptable to generate analysis, interpretation or written argument and present it as your professional judgement. Clients are paying for an expert, not for a prompt. Every deliverable must be work you can explain and defend line by line.
If you could not answer a detailed question about why a passage says what it says, it should not be in the deliverable.
When standards are not met
- First instance: the reviewer gives direct feedback and the work is corrected before delivery.
- Repeated issues: a conversation about fit, and closer review on subsequent projects.
- Serious breach — confidentiality, integrity, or misrepresenting competence: the partnership ends immediately.
